Therefore, our focus is on the things in life that really matter – our physical health, our mental sharpness, our reassessment of the direction of our life, our creation of new dreams / new talents / new passions and a new world for ourselves and our families, a re-evaluation of our connection to each other and to God, and a commitment to leaving a better legacy. However, even with this bias, we continue to focus Fridays on retirement issues and financial challenges. For the great majority of Americans, these issues cannot be avoided. A New Recommendation

bigstock-Businessmen-46526440On Friday Finds I usually focus strictly on new articles from the prior week, but I wanted to use this Friday Finds to first thank (and then recommend) Nicolas Roman.  I was interviewed on his google hangout last night, and I came away very impressed with his forum and his work, including his book, Scratch Health, and his two reports, The Whole Truth and his Energy Report. If you can create some time, I would encourage you to check his google site and peruse his list of interviews. The experts offer some good advice; and Nicolas Roman offers his own excellent insights. I predict that you will be hearing a lot more from this individual in the future.

Financial PressureThe Boomer Heath Institute will continue to focus on the things that matter the most, which includes your health, your family, your relationships, your passions, and the special activities that give you joy, but we will also use some of these Friday Finds to highlight articles on finances, retirement, and social security. Financial security is just a pipe dream for many people, especially since we live in an era of such wealth inequality. I read that the average American 65-year-old couple has a net worth of $165,000+ with a life time of expected medical costs of $300,000. All of us need to stay healthy (which is a key focus in my book and in many of my blogs), but we all need to have sufficient funds to be able to survive. Hopefully, some of these Friday Finds articles will be useful for your financial security. Healthy Habits

good health healthy life and vitality energy sane mind and bodyThe Boomer Health Institute offers a number of suggestions for improving your eating style to reduce your exposure to chemicals, contaminants, and toxins. In the series of blogs on losing weight, I also highlighted the importance of insomnia and its role in elevating cortisol, thereby contributing to weight gain. In this article, the author addresses the number of illnesses that are exacerbated by poor sleep. In that context I would like to re-highlight the importance of getting to bed around 10:30 pm and the value of an 8 hour sleep for restorative purposes. If you want the health and vitality to redesign your baby boomer years, you are going to need to develop these little habits that make a world of difference. One of those habits is an improved sleep pattern.

The presentation was titled “How To Redefine Your Legacy” and it offered suggestions on how each of us can clarify our own footprint, moving away from financial questions to issues of greater value and higher meaning. How do you want to be remembered? What values do you want to imbue in your children? Did you miss the one hour presentation, officially titled “How To Sharpen Your Mental Focus”? We reviewed my recommendations for changing your eating style; we discussed some suggestions for aerobic exercise and high-intensity exercise; and then we focused on how to sharpen your cognitive style, improving your physical health and your mental acuity. Those three components — a healthy eating style, an effective exercise program, and a positive cognitive style — are the cornerstones for the foundation for improving your life. Why?
